A memorandum of cooperation was signed on Friday between the Greek Space Organisation (GSO) and the United Kingdom Space Agency (UKSA) at the Ministry of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Media (DPTM) in Athens, ANA reports.
Deputy Minister of DPTM Lefteris Kretsos and UK Ambassador to Greece Kate Smith were present at the signing.
“There are approximately 45 companies operating in the Greek space industry sector, with a total turnover of 200 million euros per year,” Kretsos said and added that the Greek space organisation, with the doors it opens for cooperation with important international organisations, will provide a boost in the development of the space industry sector and improve the life of Greek citizens.
Kate Smith said that the memorandum will mark the beginning of a cooperation between the two countries in the space sector, which, she noted, in the UK is “a success story, absorbing specialised and innovative personnel in many universities and businesses.”
