Minister: 5G networks to start launching in Greece within the new year

A 20 pct of EU’s Recovery Fund allocation for Greece will be absorbed into upgrading the country’s digital public infrastructure, Digital Governance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis told the online Thessaloniki Summit 2020 on Friday, ANA reports.

The upgrades include installing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in the public sector and completing the auctioning of the 5G broadband frequency spectrum by year’s end. The minister said that the installation of 5G networks in major urban centers will start in the new year, while the services’ providers will then each start to announce their own launch schedules.
