The digital transformation of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) begins

The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) is moving towards digital transformation, with the aim of strengthening the country’s international image, as well as providing local businesses with modern tools to promote economic development and cultural extroversion.

In this context, on May 14, 2025, the opening meeting for the Organization’s ambitious digital transformation project was held at the headquarters of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).

The event was attended by the Secretary General of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), Andreas Fiorentinos, and executives of the contractor company Nova ICT, marking the official start of a project that is expected to radically reshape the profile of Greece’s tourism industry in the global market.

During the presentation, the vision, implementation schedule, and strategic importance of the initiative, which bears the seal of European funding through the Recovery and Resilience Fund – NextGenerationEU, were discussed in detail.

The total budget of the project amounts to 9.274 million euros (including VAT), while the value of the contracting amounts to 7.5 million euros. The digital transformation of the Greek National Tourist Organization, as emphasized, is based on three main pillars, which compose a holistic and technologically advanced ecosystem:

Digital Tourist Map

Creation of multilingual content for each region of the country, available in six languages, aiming at the balanced and multidimensional promotion of the Greek territory.

Digital Repository

A dynamic, interactive library that will host archival material, multimedia content, and innovative augmented (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences.

Smart Tourist Information System

A platform based on artificial intelligence and big data, designed to provide personalized information services to the visitor in real time.

The completion of the project is scheduled for February 2026, when its full activation is expected, offering a new, modern experience for the visitor and a powerful tool for the tourism professional.
