With its unique monuments as a backdrop, Samos is attracting the interest of international tourism promotion, as filming begins for the creation of digital content that will be hosted on the Skyscanner platform, one of the most popular travel websites in the world.
The Ephorate of Antiquities of Samos and Ikaria approved the granting of a filming-videography license in protected archaeological and religious sites of the island to the audiovisual production company Nomadic Vision Media, based in London. The purpose of the production is to create a series of tourism promotion films of Samos, with an emphasis on its cultural wealth.
The filming will take place:
- at the Archaeological Site of Heraion, which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1992,
- at the Archaeological Museum of Vatheas,
- as well as at four important religious monuments: the monasteries of Zoodochos Pigi, Agia Triada, Timios Stavros, and the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary (Panagia Makrini).
The permit provides for the use of a portable digital camera, without the presence or participation of persons in the footage, and with strict site protection specifications. Specifically, the installation of lighting or other technical means that come into direct contact with the antiquities is not permitted, nor is the use of equipment that supports direct data transmission to the internet. At the same time, images of archaeological content are not permitted to be altered through processing without the prior permission of the Ministry of Culture.
The audiovisual material that will be produced will be posted exclusively on Skyscanner’s digital platform, with the aim of enhancing the image of Samos as a cultural destination. The use of the content for any other purpose or by third parties is expressly prohibited.
This specific initiative is part of a broader strategic outreach framework, which leverages the power of new media and digital promotion to highlight Greek cultural heritage. The selection of Samos by Skyscanner and Nomadic Vision Media highlights the growing international interest in the authentic, historically charged landscapes of our country and the role that they can play in sustainable tourism development.
