Crete Region approved the island’s Tourism Promotion Program with a total 900,000 euros budget for 2016.
The program, presented by Tornos News, is as follows:
ACTION 1: TOURISM EXHIBITIONS
The participation of Crete in International Tourism Exhibitions has two objectives:
-The promotion of tourist product of Crete in the particular country and the personal contact of the delegation with the public visiting the exhibition along with providing travel information and responding to prospective visitors that have been puzzled by Greece’s continuing economic crisis.
-The development of contacts and cooperation between the tourist community of our country and the host country professionals.
During 2016, the Crete Region is planning its participation in the following tourism exhibitions:

ACTION’S BUDGET: 300,000 euros
ACTION 2: HOSPITALITY
The development of good public relations with tour operators, selected bloggers and journalists is considered an important promotional operation because these groups affect tourist arrivals at the region.
ACTION’S BUDGET: 50,000 euros
ACTION 3: EVENTS
The region plans to organize or co-organize various events in Greece and abroad with tour operators and specialized partners, to give a creative display of Crete in an effort to cover as many target markets as possible.
ACTION’S BUDGET: 180,000 euros
ACTION 4: PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL
The promotional material acquired by the Region as a result of the 2015 “Content Development and Communication applications for the Tourism Promotion of Crete” competition will be utilized and enriched by extra content focusing on alternative forms of Tourism & cruises.
ACTION’S BUDGET: 120,000 euros
ACTION 5: ADVERTISING
The action combines advertising in digital media, the internet and social networking with the traditional advertising methods such as TV, radio, newspaper and magazines. Special emphasis will be given to advertising on web sites related to tourism (large tourist agencies, tour – operators, airlines, specialized media etc.), with banners that refer to the www.incrediblecrete.gr website, as well as listings in printed and widely circulated newspapers (domestic and foreign) in-flight airline magazines and tv, promotional DVDs, TV and radio spots, search engines (google, yahoo, etc.) and social networking sites.

ACTION 6: INTERNET AND SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT, www.incrediblecrete SITE DEVELOPMENT AND SPECIAL SOFTWARE UTILIZATION

Action 7: STUDIES
The knowledge of modern tourism trends and qualitative characteristics of tourists who visit Crete is considered necessary for the Region’s continuous improvement of the tourism product and its promotional methods. This action includes cooperation with educational institutions, tourist boards, design institutes, private companies, etc. to conduct studies on the tourism product of Crete, the index of satisfaction of current visitors, their future expectations, the dynamics of every tourist market and the expected developments in the tourism market.
