Minister of Economy Giorgos Stathakis announced that the bailout program review will conclude by the end of December, in a speech he delivered on Tuesday at the conference on the Greek economy hosted by the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Stathakis appeared confident that it will be feasible to conclude the process in the allocated time. despite the fact that the Greek government has serious issues to address – the principal one being the pension system reform.
Review conclusion early in 2016
During the previous, first day of the conference, on Monday, European Commission’s Declan Costello predicted that the review would conclude early in 2016.
After the completion of the bailout program review, the Greek government and the institutions will enter discussions in regard to the sustainability of the Greek public debt.
4.5 billion euros by the end of the year
Speaking at the same conference, Deputy Economy, Development and Tourism Minister Alexis Haritsis stressed that a payment of 4.5 billion euros was planned by the end of the year in order to smoothly wrap up the programmes of the current period and successfully begin those of the next, for which 26 billion euros in funds are available. The government’s intention was to place emphasis on research and innovation, young entrepreneurship, development of new skills, environmental protection projects and social exclusion, he said.
Among sectors likely to benefit, the minister listed the farming and foods sector, pharmaceuticals, new technology, logistics, industrial materials, environmental industry and tourism.
