Eurogroup to announce return of Greece’s lenders to Athens

The exact date of the return of Greece’s lenders representatives is expected to be announced at Eurogroup meeting to take place today in Brussels, which will be attended by Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos and start at 16:00 (Athens time) in Brussels

Reportedly, the most likely date for the return of the ‘Quartet’ is next Thursday, while their visit is expected to last until the end of next week (17-18 March). Basically, the review of the Greek program has already been made and both sides have estimated what measures are needed for Greek citizens to pay. Fiscal gap, pensions and refugee issue are expected to be put on the table.

The Greek issue is placed at the top of the agenda at Eurogroup meeting, where IMF’s stance will be heard. IMF will be represented by the Fund’s director of the European sector Poul Thomsen. The government and the prime minister believe that the Fund is responsible for the delay, since they claim that they have agreed with Europeans on the basic points.

According to European sources, the tension between the institutions has de-escalated despite the issues that are still pending. The IMF continues to see a higher fiscal gap than the EU, however, eurozone officials express optimism that the institutions representatives are getting prepared to return to Athens under a common negotiation basis and announce their arrival within the week.
