European Commissioner: Greek debt relief deal to be reached by May 1

European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici appeared optimistic regarding Greece’s reform program in an interview with TV channel LCP.

According to him, it is necessary to draft a good reform plan together with the Greek Government before starting the debate on Greek debt relief.

Regarding the timetable for the debt, he announced  that “we hope to reach a compromise agreement on the Greek debt by May, 1″.

Mr. Moscovici also referred also to France saying that the country should continue its reforms in order to strengthen its economy and create new jobs.

On Wednesday, representatives of Greece’s European lenders and the International Monetary Fund arrived in Athens for talks expected to concentrate on plans to manage the growing number of non-performing loans and reform the country’s pension system.
