The Athens Stock Exchange has been recognized as a Designated Offshore Securities Market (DOSM) by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
This development means that investors and issuers in the Greek stock exchange will gain certain benefits and advantages.
Securities issued in Greece and listed and traded on the Athens Stock Exchange may now be resold without the seller having to determine if the buyer is outside the USA.
Furthermore, a more liquid resale market is expected to develop as a result, which in turn will make Greek securities more attractive to American investors.
The DOSM designation will also facilitate the dissemination of research reports during offerings of securities (including private placements of debt and equity securities) by issuers whose shares have traded on the Athens stock market for at least one year.
