Dukakis: Prolonged austerity does not help Greek economy's revival

Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos on Thursday in a meeting with Michael Dukakis, Democrats candidate for US presidency in 1988, estimated that Greece will overcome the crisis.

Pavlopoulos underlined that the European Union sees again the need for policy change adding that austerity deepens the gap between rich and poor and highlights the social impasses.

The President estimated that Greece will overcome the crisis and this effort should be supported by all democratic political forces united, despite individual differences. 

On his part, Dukakis said that Greek Americans always want to help Greece and stressed the need for European policy change, noting that prolonged austerity does not help the economy to revive. Referring to the Greek economy, he stressed the need to provide further incentives for development.
