The Greek government will not accept the harsh measures demanded by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), a government source said on Friday, adding however that an agreement with the institutions is seen before the end of the year.
“Not just this government, but no government can accept the package of new measures totaling 4.2 billion euros requested by the IMF for the years 2019-2020, which we will have to legislate now,” the source said.
It is also impossible to accept a compromise – not legislate these measures now but add them in a political agreement – as this would be “anti-democratic and cowardly”, the source added, noting that collective agreement remain a “red line” for the government.
