Lux-Marlafekas ABEE, a Greek beverage company, on Monday said it had continued growing despite a 12.5 pct decline in value in the domestic market, hit by an economic crisis and higher VAT rates.
The company is constantly raising its market shares and has established its leading position as a Greek beverage favoured by Greek consumers. By steadily raising sales, domestically and internationally, investing in infrastructure and new innovative products, with zero bank loans, Lux said it was one of the most dynamically developing Greek enterprises, supporting the Greek economy and creating new job positions.
Yiannis Marlafekas, chairman and CEO, said the management is monitoring developments in the market and noted that the bottled water market was of particular interest. “If our company makes a move, it should be done properly and methodically with the aim to cover any possible gaps in the market. We continue monitoring the bottled water market and but we have nothing official to announce,” he said.
Commenting on a decision by Pepsico-Ivi to terminate the operation of its factory in Inofyta, Marlafekas said this development was expected to create a more favourable climate, consumer-wise, as companies operating in the domestic market giving jobs to Greek citizens- would be even more supported by Greek consumers. He said that Lux was not interested in buying Pepsico-Ivi’s unit.
The company recently completed a 6.0-million-euro investment to create a production line of innovative low-calorie beverages, strengthening its position in the market with a new innovative series ?plus ‘n light?, with zero sugar, 60 pct less calories and more vitamin C.
Lux said its 2015 turnover was 30 million euros, up 5.0 pct from the previous year, with gross earnings at 3.3 million euros (3.1 million in 2014). The company expects this year’s turnover to rise by 5.0 pct. Lux has a 9.4 pct market share (in volume) and 10.2 pct (in value) in the domestic beverage market. The company expects market shares to grew further in 2017. Lux exports its products to 22 countries around the world.
