A coordinating body representing professional and scientific bodies which wanted to maintain the reduced VAT rate scheme on the islands welcomed Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ announcement on Thursday evening, in a press release issued on Friday.
“Even if the suspension is temporary, we won a fight which was possible through the rallying of citizens, entrepreneurs and professionals living on our islands around the bodies which held those protests,” the body said.
“The fight and our efforts will continue with the aim of altering the law so that VAT rates remain lowered on our islands,” it added.
