A new 5 pct tax for the use of landline phone and broadband connections will begin to be charged on phone bills issued after January 1, 2017 according to a circular issued by the General Secretary for Public Revenues Giorgos Pitsilis on Tuesday. The tax will be charged on the final amount of the bill, including the minimum monthly fee charged by phone companies, before VAT.
In the case that bills are issued for several months, a tax is calculated for each month.
The tax is collected by landline phone service providers from customers and then paid to the tax office with monthly statements submitted before the end of the month following the issue of the bill, independent of when the bill is paid.
