New jobs are offering increasingly low salaries in Greece according to data from the Labor Ministry’s Ergani database.
According to the data presented in the report which analyzes the salaries of Greeks, in 2015 one in two workers in Greece were paid less than or equal to the minimal monthly wage level of 2012. This means that one in two Greeks make around 800 euros gross monthly in their existing jobs.
Also, even with new jobs being created in the employment sector, salaries that the new jobs bring are far from desired. Workers are left severely underemployed when taking on a newly created job, with one in two Greeks making only an average monthly salary of below 600 euros for full-time employment. One in four see less than 500 euros gross monthly — showing that despite the creation of 82,679 new jobs last year, Greeks are far from financially stable when they are employed.
