Bank of Greece: Increased surplus in the balance of travel services in June

In June 2017, the balance of travel services showed a surplus of 1,9 million euros, up 15.5%, according to data by the Bank of Greece. In June 2016, the surplus amounted to 1,66 million euros. Travel receipts rose significantly and this was driven by a 13.0% increase in inbound traveller flows and by a rise in average expenditure per trip by 1.6% to €589. In January – June 2017, the balance of travel services showed a surplus of 3,174 million euros, up 9.4%, from a surplus of 2,901 million euros in the same period in 2016.

Ιnternational tourist arrivals excl. cruises grew by 6.6% y-o-y to 7.94m in H1’17 , with related tourist receipts (excl. cruises) up 7.4% to €3.95bn. 

Breaking down receipts by visitor’s country of origin, in the EU, receipts from France rose by 14.2%, from Germany by 16.3% and from the United Kingdom by 8.5%. Regarding countries of origin outside the EU, receipts from Russia grew by 20.3%, while receipts from the US rose by 33.6%.
