The elimination of a night-time shift at the Greek port of Thessaloniki’s gate 16 by the customs service has reportedly caused international shipping agencies to avoid the northern Greece destination – whose port authority is in the process of being privatized.
The shift was eliminated days ago, triggering negative reactions by shipping interests and Thessaloniki’s business community.
According to the president a union representing shipbrokers and agents in Thessaloniki, Vassilis Kampakis, who spoke to “Naftemporiki”, international shippers have criticized the development and, in many, turned to alternative routes.
