Greece applied on Tuesday for funding from the European Union Solidarity Fund for repairs on the Dodecanese island of Kos, which was struck by a 6.7-magnitude earthquake of July 21.
The activation request was filed by the ministry of economy and development, which has also recently filed for funding for the island of Lesvos, which was hit by a 6.3-magnitude earthquake on June 12.
Alternate Minister Alexis Charitsis noted the EU funds would supplement those the state has spent, which amount to 400,000 euros for emergency repairs and 8 million euros for assessments and final restorations of the port of Kos.
The European Union funds will be used for public infrastructure and facilities, monuments and archaeological sites.
