Greece's Green Cola implements ambitious expansion strategy

Green Cola is one of the fastest growing consumer product companies in Greece, according to Endeavor, and is currently expanding in the most demanding and large market of the Arab peninsula under the guidance of a visional businessman, Pericles Venieris.

“With a career of more than 30 years in the beverage market, my dream was to create a new category of Greek product that would be acceptable to consumers and have all quality characteristics and competitive advantages,” Venieris told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) in a recent interview.

“We created an innovative product, Green Cola, that had both flavour and was produced with natural ingredients, such as natural caffeine and stevia, with no sugar or sugar substances, while all ingredients included in most other beverages in the market have been scrapped. This product was loved by consumers and we are very proud,” Venieris noted. He added that the decision to begin this endeavor was taken in a very difficult economic environment, adding: “the criterion was not whether the project would be viable, but whether I was capable of producing something different on a global scale and my goal was to bring consumers back to the beverage category, which has lost 40 pct of its volume in the last eight years”.

Green Cola entered the market in early 2013, along with a series of low-calorie and high-quality products such as Green Mountain, Pure Cola, Mad Mohito, Mixers Mix&Match. In 2015, Yiannis Hitos, a Greek businessman, purchased 25 pct of the company through a share capital increase plan.

Green Cola currently holds an 8.5 pct share of the domestic cola-type market, which lost around 1-2.0 pct in the first nine-months of 2017. Green Cola exports to 22 countries around the globe, with exports accounting for around 16.6 pct of its turnover of 18 million euros.

The firm recently signed a contract with Ocean Holding Group for the marketing and distribution of Green Cola in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, while its next targets are Europe, the Middle East and South Africa.

Venieris unveiled he was in favour of cooperation between Greek beverage companies.
