Moscovici: Eurostat data confirm the unprecedented recovery of Greek economy

The fiscal data released by Eurostat which indicated Greece recorded a budget surplus in 2016 confirm the “unprecedented recovery” the country has made, the EU΄s Economic and Financial Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) on Monday.

“Today΄s Eurostat data confirm the unprecedented recovery of Greek fiscal data since 2009. This achievement is due to the determination of the Greek people to make enormous sacrifices to restore stability and to keep Greece within the euro. The European Commission has recognized these efforts earlier this year, by proposing that Greece exits from the excessive deficit procedure,” he told ANA.

Commenting on the third program review underway in Athens Moscovici reiterated his view that it is in everyone΄s interest to finish it quickly.

“The economy is growing again and the end of the program is only ten months away. This means it is in everyone΄s interest for these talks to proceed smoothly and quickly to further enhance confidence,” he noted.
