Greek exports to India increased by 2.7 pct in 2016, while imports from India rose 4.3 pct in the same year, after an increase of 10.6 pct and a decline of 11.8 pct in 2015, respectively, the Greek embassy in New Delhi said in its annual report on India’s economy.
The report noted, nevertheless, that with the exception of tourism, bilateral economic relations between Greece and India remained at low levels, while the trade balance remains negative for Greece.
It pointed out that there were 20 Greek investments in India, while the number of tourists from India to Greece has been rising steadily in the last few years. It added that an increasing reputation of Greek cuisine in the Indian sub-continent was expected to boost Greek exports to India, particularly in the food sector. The report also noted that sectors such as renewable energy sources, shipping, IT, defense could become fields of joint action between the two countries.
