Greek Minister extends Interruptible Power Supply scheme for two years

Greece’s Environment and Energy Minister George Stathakis has signed a decision extending the electricity Interruptible Power Service Mechanism – or interruptibility scheme – for two years until the end of 2019, the ministry announced on Friday. It expires on December 31, 2019 at which point the measure will be re-examined, according to ANA.

The IPS mechanism is open to domestic industrial plants with a capacity greater than 3MW that are large consumers of power and assists them restrict their costs, in exchange for reducing consumption at times of peak demand and helping ensure the system’s stability.

It is implemented in seven EU Member States (France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal and Spain).
