The application for the new stayover tax returns as well as the electronic application monitoring the short-term leasing of properties (on platforms like Airbnb) will be fully implemented by March 31, 2018, according to a decision of the Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE) published at the Greece’s official Government Gazette, outlining its operational program and setting fiscal targets for 2018.
This practically entails that tourism-related businesses will once again go under scrutiny as special tax squads will launch on-the-spot audits across Greece, even prior to the tourism season
Furthermore, by 31st May, guidance for on-the-spot audits shall be provided for the fulfillment of tax obligations of the relevant 4389/2016 law regarding the stayover tax with special focus on enterprises with repeated violations.
At least 500 such probes are scheduled to be carried out in order to ensure the declaration of the specific tax.
