The total contribution of Travel & Tourism to Greece’s GDP was EUR35.0 bn (USD39.7bn), it is forecast to rise by 5.3% in 2018, and grow by 3.7% pa to EUR52.8bn (USD59.9bn), 22.7% of GDP in 2028, according to data of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).
The direct contribution of Travel & Tourism to Greek GDP was EUR14.3bn (USD16.2bn), 8.0% of total GDP in 2017 and is forecast to rise by 5.6% in 2018, and to rise by 3.5% pa, from 2018-2028, to EUR21.3bn (USD24.1bn), 9.1% of total GDP in 2028.
In 2017 Travel & Tourism directly supported 459,000 jobs (12.2% of total employment). This is expected to rise by 5.2% in 2018 and rise by 2.1% pa to 592,000 jobs (13.3% of total employment) in 2028.
In 2017, the total contribution of Travel & Tourism to employment, including jobs indirectly supported by the industry was 24.8% of total employment (934,500 jobs). This is expected to rise by 5.6% in 2018 to 987,000 jobs and rise by 2.5% pa to 1,266,000 jobs in 2028 (28.5% of total).
Visitor exports generated EUR17.1bn (USD19.5bn), 28.4% of total exports in 2017. This is forecast to grow by 5.1% in 2018, and grow by 4.5% pa, from 2018-2028, to EUR28.1bn (USD31.9bn) in 2028, 28.9% of total.
Travel & Tourism investment in 2017 was EUR3.1bn, 15.9% of total investment (USD3.5bn). It should rise by 3.6% in 2018, and rise by 5.5% pa over the next ten years to EUR5.5bn (USD6.2bn) in 2028, 17.4% of total.
