IOBE: Marginal improvement in Greek business expectations

A marginal improvement in business expectations was recorded in January in the Greek manufacturing industry, according to a report published Tuesday by the Foundation For Economic & Industrial Research (IOBE), ANA reports.

The business expectations index in industry was slightly up to 97.6 points in January, after a four-month drop to 96.4 points, but still lower than that of the previous year (103.7).

According to IOBE, this improvement was in line with the most recent figures on industrial production in December, a month that saw a -1.6 pct decline of industrial production in Greece against a -0.9 pct decline in the EU on average.

IOBE argues the slight improvement is partly due to a recent 90-day ‘truce’ in the trade war between the US and China that began at the start of last December, which generates hope of a longer suspension or even the lifting of trade tariffs between the two countries.
