Greek PM: New bank service fees are 'unjustifiable' and must be revoked

Greek banks need to revoke their newly-introduced service fees, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said at a meeting with ministers and the Hellenic Bank Association (HBA) at Maximos Mansion on Thursday, according to ANA.

Mitsotakis said “the government cannot possibly accept these increases,” and called them “unjustified, especially in a financial climate that is much better,” according to a briefing by the premier’s office.

The PM’s office said that bankers justified the rise as a way of encouraging the use of e-banking, in which Greek banks have invested heavily. They committed, nevertheless, to review the fee hikes, especially in remote locations where there is a single ATM for use by local residents.
