National and Piraeus Banks suspend selective customer fees at ATMs in Greece

National Bank and Piraeus Bank announced adjustments to their transaction fees on Friday, after a call by the government to either cancel or suspend them, ANA reports.

In a statement, Greece’s largest bank, National Bank, noted that it would return fees charged by use of ATMs of other banks in location when it did not have either a branch or an ATM. It also said it would not apply a fee for printing out recent transactions, a choice available at ATMs, and it would cancel the fee for the reissuing and dispatch of a new PIN number to customers.

Piraeus Bank also said its customers will not be charged any fees over cash withdrawals at other banks’ ATMs on islands or wherever the bank does not have an ATM. The bank will absorb the cost of the other bank’s charges, it said.

It also canceled fees collected through ATMs of other banks for similar services to those of the National Bank, above, and it committed to reviewing its pricing policy on all other services.
