Holiday season turnover stable at €3.5 billion in Greece during 2019

Retail turnover in the Christmas and New Year holiday season reached around 3.5 billion euros according to preliminary numbers released by the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, according to ANA.

An announcement by Vasilis Korkidis, president of the Chamber, noted that a telephone survey of retail enterprises in the Attica region, conducted by the Chamber, showed that the holiday season turnover was around the same levels as in 2018, with purchasing activity rising strongly in some markets in Attica and remaining subdued in others. He noted that the December turnover remained far from the figure of 5.4 billion euros recorded in December 2009. Korkidis said that an accumulated reduction of the holiday season turnover was around 35 pct in the period from 2009 to 2019, or around 2.0 billion euros in sales, adding that the retail sales turnover was expected to reach 42 billion euros this year (including fuel) and 36 billion euros, excluding fuel. This figure will be up 1.5 pct from 2018.
