The Greek economy continues to improve, raising the odds that the European Central Bank will finally purchase Greek state bonds as part of an asset purchasing program, Christine Lagarde, president of the European Central Bank said on Thursday, according to ANA.
Addressing the European Parliament’s Economic Affairs Committee, Lagarde said: “If the situation continues to improve and based on the criteria we implement for all these purchases, I am relatively convinced that Greek bonds will be eligible as well.” Greek bonds are currently not eligible for purchase by the ECB since they are not yet rated as investment grade, one of the basic criteria of the ECB.
