Minister: Greek government forced to keep shops closed over Christmas

Αfter thoroughly examining the epidemiological data and a long discussion with the expert committee on infectious diseases, the Greek government was forced to make a decision to not allow the opening of non-essential retail trade, even over the crucial Christmas period, Development and Investments Minister Adonis Georgiadis said on Friday, during the announcement of the pandemic measures over the holidays.

He noted that, in the face of this great dilemma created by the pandemic, “the government will only allow the operation of click-away, ie retail sales through a process of pre-purchasing and picking up orders from outside the store.” The sole exception to this rule for retail will be bookstores, which will be open to customers for symbolic reasons and to promote culture, he added.
