Greek government offering incentives to households to reduce energy consumption

The Greek government is offering incentives to reduce electricity consumption through a scaled subsidy program on electricity bills, Environment and Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas said on Tuesday, ANA reports.

In comments made to Mega TV, Skrekas said that the government has been subsidizing all electricity bills horizontally since June, adding: “We will continue to subsidize all bills and all monthly consumptions and all households with one difference: The lower the consumption, the greater subsidy. Even for someone with high consumption, if they manage to reduce energy consumption by 15 pct, will receive an additional subsidy. This is feasible since authorities have comparable data with the previous year’s consumption.”
