Greek Finance Minister welcomes EU Commission's winter forecasts

Greek Finance Minister Christos Staikouras on Monday welcomed the European Commission’s winter forecasts for Greece, saying they confirmed the strong resilience and the positive outlook of the economy, ANA reports.

Speaking to reporters after a Eurogroup meeting in Brussels, Staikouras said that the economic growth rate in Greece improved, strengthened, and was steadily above the European average growth rate in 2023 and in 2024, while the inflation rate was de-escalating to a significantly lower level in 2023 compared with the European average rate.

The Greek FinMin attributed these results to the efficient and generous measures offered by the government to support households’ available income and reduce the costs of enterprises. It is also attributed to a historic record in investments and exports last year and to frontloading and significant exploitation of EU Recovery and Resilience funds.
