“The intense geopolitical instability, with the Israel-Hamas conflict at its center and the deterioration of conditions in international trade, are starting to have a direct impact on the growth of Greek exports,” the honorary president of the Panhellenic Association of Exporters Christina Sakellaridi noted in a statement on Thursday, ANA reports.
“It is indicative,” she said, “that in June 2024 a 7.3 percent slowdown was observed in Greek exports, excluding petroleum products, as they fell to 2.94 billion euros compared to 3.17 billion euros in the same period in 2023. Including petroleum products, the total value of Greek exports presented during the period under review slightly increased by 2.1 percent reaching 4.25 billion euros against 4.16 billion euros in June 2023.
“Adversity and uncertainty about the outlook for the global economy do not allow any complacency. There is also the danger of a generalized conflict in the Middle East, with Tehran openly threatening Israel with retaliation after the death of the political leader of Hamas. Already, the global supply chain is facing a series of challenges (see Houthi), which have caused transportation costs to skyrocket while the cost of money has also ‘risen’ significantly. It is imperative that the agencies of extroversion and the state remain vigilant so that they can intervene in the most appropriate and effective way, if and when it is necessary,” Sakellaridi added.
