Vangelis Karkanakis: Heraklion Chamber | Problems from the transfer of Pancretan Bank data to Attica Bank

The serious concerns of the Heraklion Chamber and its business members regarding the problems that arose after the merger of Attica Bank and Pancretan Bank (CrediaBank) and the transfer of Pancretan Bank data to Attica Bank, are expressed in a letter to the Governor of the Bank of Greece, by the President of the Heraklion Chamber, Mr. Vangelis Karkanakis.

As he underlines, the Heraklion Chamber has recently received numerous complaints about the serious difficulties that businesses have encountered in processing their transactions. These include, among others, delays in incoming and outgoing payments, which have led to the inability to meet contractual obligations, malfunctions in goods orders and supplier payments, resulting in the imposition of penalties or additional charges, as well as difficulties in accessing digital channels and delays in the use of cards and ATMs.

Mr. Karkanakis points out that all of the above endangers the smooth commercial activity of businesses and calls on Mr. Stournaras to intervene immediately to resolve the problem.

The letter from the Heraklion Chamber of Commerce states in detail:

“Dear Mr. Governor,

With this letter we would like to convey to you the serious concerns of the Heraklion Chamber of Commerce and its members regarding the problems that arose after the merger of Attica Bank and Pancretan Bank (CrediaBank) and the transfer of Pancretan Bank’s data to Attica Bank. Specifically, recently we have received numerous complaints from our member companies, which have encountered serious difficulties in processing their transactions. Among them are:

Delays in incoming and outgoing payments, which led to the inability to meet contractual obligations.

Malfunctions in goods orders and supplier payments, resulting in the imposition of penalties or additional charges.

Difficulties in accessing digital channels and delays in using cards and ATMs.

These issues directly affect the daily operation of small and medium-sized enterprises in Crete, create losses of credibility in their transactions and endanger their smooth commercial activity.

Therefore, the Heraklion Chamber calls on the Bank of Greece, under its supervisory authority, to intervene immediately in order to ensure:

The immediate restoration of malfunctions and full operational continuity of services.

The information of customers in a clear and reliable manner about any pending matters.

The provision of compensatory measures for businesses that suffered losses due to the delays.

Mr. Governor, it is crucial to immediately restore the confidence of businesses in the banking system and to ensure the smooth flow of economic activity. The Heraklion Chamber remains at your disposal for any cooperation and consultation.
