Skiathos gets off to a strong start in 2026 – €500,000 tourism promotion program

With targeted partnerships, a strong presence in international markets and a new promotion campaign that extends to Europe and America, the municipality of Skiathos is making a strong start to the 2026 season. The comprehensive tourism promotion program, with a total budget of €500,000, focuses on expanding the tourist season, attracting new visitors and enhancing the island’s recognition abroad.

As stated by the mayor of Skiathos, Thodoris Tzoumas, “we are investing in the international identity of the destination with a specific action plan that highlights our comparative advantages. Our strategy is based on consistency, collaboration with leading travel organizations and the promotion of the authentic Skiathos experience.”

As part of the program, the municipality collaborated on co-advertising with major tourism companies:
– in the United Kingdom with Jet2 Holidays (€30,000), EasyJet Airline UK (€25,000) and Olympic Holidays (€10,000)
– in Italy and Switzerland with EasyJet Holidays (€25,000)
– in France with Transavia (€25,000)
– in Austria with Springer Reisen (€20,000)
– in Scandinavia with Apollo Der Touristic (€15,000) and Sunweb (€15,000)
– in Romania with Aerotravel (€15,000)
– in the Netherlands with TUI (€10,000)
– in Germany with Discover Airlines (€25,000)

In parallel, two presentations of the destination have been planned in Italy, in Milan on November 13 and in Rome on November 14, in collaboration with the Italian National Tourist Organization, with a total expenditure of 3,000 euros.

To strengthen the island’s international presence, campaigns are being implemented on public transport:
– €19,000 on the London Underground
– €8,000 on the Paris Metro
– €23,000 on the Stockholm Metro and Gothenburg trams
– €14,000 on Vienna trams
– €8,000 on Zurich trams

In addition, an impressive promotional campaign is planned in Times Square, New York, in the second half of November, amounting to 30,000 euros, which will bring Skiathos to the epicenter of international tourism trends.

Skiathos is also promoted through Sea Jets, with video and printed material in Sea Jets Magazine on 26 high-speed ferries and 3 conventional ships (€5,250), while tributes have already been published in the international media Wanderlust (€5,500), Travel Daily News (€4,000), Discover Skiathos (€2,000), Boats & Yachting (€1,850) and Incredible by Fraport (€7,200).

For the island’s continuous digital presence, the municipality allocates €6,120 annually for the management of the Skiathos Experience accounts on social media.

At this point, it should be emphasized that, as the mayor underlined, “Skiathos’ economy is based on tourism. Our priority is sustainable development, the preservation of authenticity and the promotion of our natural and cultural resources. We are investing in a stable tourism development model that combines quality, durability and respect.”

In support of this, Thodoris Tzoumas revealed that for 2026 the municipality is targeting new markets, with Edinburgh and Munich already in the planning stages, while the addition of a second city from France is also being considered, as part of the strategy to further extend the tourist season.

It is recalled that this year’s season ended with a 7% increase in flights and 6% in passengers compared to 2024, as the last international flight to London departed, closing another successful cycle for the destination.
