The European Commission is pleased with the progress made in the construction of the so-called “hotspots” on the Greek islands which is continuing, based on the country’s commitments, spokeswoman Mina Andreeva said on Tuesday at a press briefing in Brussels.
Asked to comment on an announcement by the Greek authorities that four out of five registration and identification centers are ready, Andreeva said the Commission has staff in site to inspect the progress.
She added that European services have been mobilized at all levels to help Greece operate those centers soon, noting that prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is expected to brief European leaders on the issue in the upcoming Summit, after which the Commission’s staff will be able to review the situation.
