Greek main opposition party New Democracy leads by 6 points in new poll

In a ‘Pulse’ poll aired on TV station ‘Action24’, Thursday night, Greek voters are strongly in favour of early elections (47%), with 32% saying they want the current coalition SYRIZA-ANEL government to remain in power.

The findings of the poll confirm the sentiment of the Greek electorate has turned against the government, as 31% responded they would vote for conservative opposition party New Democracy, compared to SYRIZA’s 25%, while the junior coalition populist party of ANEL failed to reach the 3% threshold for entering the parliament as it received 2.5%.

Extreme right Golden Dawn came in third with 6.5%, followed by the Democratic Alignment (PASOK-DIMAR) with 5.5%, the Communist party of KKE (5.5%), Centrists Union (3%) and Popular Unity (a splinter group of SYRIZA MPs) with 3%.

New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis leads Greek PM Alexis Tsipras by 7 percentage points (30%-23%) on the question ‘who is most suitable to be Prime Minister’. Opposition party New Democracy also leads in the electorate’s sentiment on which party will win the elections by a large margin of 18% (50%-32%).
