The managing director of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde revealed that the differences between Greece, its European creditors and the IMF are smaller than what is being reported.
In an interview for French publication Le Figaro, the IMF chief said that the common wish of the Fund and European institutions is for Greece to return to grown and regain access to capital markets, so that it may stand on its won.
When asked why she believes that Greece’s European creditors insist on the Fund’s involvement, she responded that it was a matter of trust, since the IMF’s 70 years of experience means that rules and principles will be applied.
Finally, the IMF chief disclosed that she will participate in Friday’s Eurogroup, in an effort to reach an agreement. Mrs. Lagarde clarified though that while this will not mean that the situation will be resolved, she hopes to contribute towards a solution.
