Voting underway on prior actions bill in Greek parliament

The heated debate on the omnibus bill that includes measures demanded by Greece’s lenders to close the first program review concluded in parliament on Sunday, with speeches by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and the leaders of the opposition parties.

The debate began on Saturday morning in Parliament. Aside from a series of indirect tax hikes, this bill introduces the much-debated privatization ‘super fund’ and the automatic fiscal adjustment mechanism.

Proceedings in Parliament began on Saturday morning with the Democratic Alignment arguing that the bill violates constitutional provisions. Further tension was caused between Golden Dawn and SYRIZA MPs.

Voting is now underway.
