The Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras will attempt to form a united front of southern European countries, by hosting a meeting in Athens in early September.
According to reports, the Greek Prime Minister has invited French President Francois Hollande, Italian PM Mateo Renzi, Portuguese PM Antonio Costa, Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiades, Maltese PM Joseph Muscat and the Spanish PM (when a government has been formed).
The main issues on the agenda will be security, the refugee crisis and the economy, however it is almost certain that the future of a ‘post-Brexit’ Europe will be debated, ahead of the EU summit meeting in Bratislava on 16 September.
During the meeting in Athens, the southern European leaders will attempt to coordinate their actions on the austerity policies imposed by the northern European countries. They will also attempt to formulate a proposal for growth, tackling the refugee crisis and addressing security concerns in the broader region.
