Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras responded to an article published in the Financial Times on Friday, which commented favourably on Greek economic data and titled “Greece surprises with economic growth”, saying it is “the best response to doomsayers”.
Greece posted a 0.3 percent GDP growth in the second quarter of the year, compared to the first quarter of this year, defying expectations for a negative rate. The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) also said the GDP contracted 0.7 percent compared with the same period of 2015. In terms of volume, the economy contracted by 0.1 percent in the second quarter, year-on-year.
