Greek FM to UN Adviser: Cyprus solution without guarantees

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias and UN Secretary General Special Adviser Espen Barth Eide have discussed the security aspect of a Cyprus problem, reports said on Wednesday.

Specifically, the two discussed the issue of finding a security agreement that answers the concerns of all the Cypriot people, a solution that does not include the anachronistic system of guarantees, and the presence of foreign troops on the island.

The Greek Foreign Minister has characterised today’s meeting with the US Vice President Joe Biden and the Greek Prime Minister as one of the most important as they discussed Greek American relations and the latest developments in the US and Europe.

On Thursday, Kotzias is set to have a meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Nikola Poposki, and be present at meetings the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will have with the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.

Kotzias will also meet with the Jewish organisations in the US and take part the meeting of EU and NATO Foreign Ministers.
