The latest developments on the Cyprus problem, the negotiation process, and the need for peace in Syria, were among the issues raised by parliamentarian Andreas Kafkalias, during his intervention before the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s 2016 Autumn Meeting is taking place on Skopje, FYROM, and Cyprus is represented by the Members of the Parliament Andreas Kafkalias (head), Kyriacos Hadjiyiannis and Charalambos Pittokopitis.
Kafkalias participated in the discussion on the promotion of security and cooperation in the Mediterranean, in the framework of the Mediterranean Parliamentary Forum of the Parliamentary Assembly of OSCE.
During his intervention, Kafkalias stressed the need to resume negotiations in Syria the soonest possible to find a political solution to the problem.
As regards the Cyprus issue, the Cypriot Member of the House of Representatives noted that the negotiations between the leaders of the two communities on the island, Nicos Anastasiades and Mustafa Akinci marked a tangible progress.
He pointed out, however, that there are still different views between the two sides regarding very serious aspects of the problem, namely the aspect of security, Turkish troops, guarantor powers, and territory and property.
