The statement of European Parliament President Martin Schulz “I was surprised” did not refer to the Greek position on debt, but to the question itself, a spokesman of the EU Parliament chief explained.
“During the press conference that followed the speech of European Parliament President Martin Schulz, the president was asked on his meeting with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. Schulz was surprised with the way the question of whether the European Parliament will act on the issue of the Greek debt relief was expressed. Schulz was not surprised with the position of the Greek government and does not disagree with it. He added that if a discussion on debt takes place, it will do so in the Economic and Monetary Affairs committee of the European Parliament,” his spokesman stated.
