The President of New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with the President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos on Monday morning and repeated his call for early elections.
Mr. Mitsotakis claimed that the early elections are the only way for Greece to avoid a political decline and called for him to intervene in what he claimed to a conflict between the executive and judicial powers, in light of the recent debacle on the television licensing law.
He called the current situation in the country “extremely crucial”, in a comment in front of reporters during his meeting with Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos.
The former had requested the meeting from the latter, a former ND minister who now holds the ceremonial presidential post.
In an earlier statement, a ND spokesman was quoted by a local television station as saying that the meeting was requested by Mitsotakis because of an “ambient atmosphere of authoritarian mentality that is affecting (the country’s) democratic operation.”
