Russia will not accept any reductions of Cyprus’ sovereignty, Moscow’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday during his visit to Greece.
Lavrov has held meeting with Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, where he reaffirmed Russia’s stance on the ongoing Cyprus talks.

“Undoubtedly, there needs to be an agreement from the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides themselves,” Lavrov mentioned. He also noted Moscow’s support to the UN Security Council resolutions on sovereignty and the property issues.

Tsipras, on his part, said that the Cyprus solution needs to be viable, and not include the presence of Turkish troops on the island.
