The Turkish ship, Barbaros, which has previously entered Cyprus’ waters unwarranted, is set to conduct seismic research off the coast of the island, the head of Turkish Petroleum (TPAO), Besim Sisman told Turkish media on Friday.
Specifically, Sisman told Anadolu agency that the ship would be conducting its research soon.
He added that they are continuing to evaluate the seismic data Barbaros had previously collected.
“After this research, we will be able to start drilling off the coast of Cyprus in the Mediterranean. But since investments in sea projects is expensive, it is only natural that we will wait for oil prices to go down, so we can accelerate the process,” he said.
In 2014, the same ship, had violated Cyprus’ EEZ, halting ongoing Cyprus talks with then Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu.
Cyprus problem talks did not restart until May 2015.
