Outgoing US President Barack Obama will deliver an address during his Athens visit on Nov. 16 with a historical backdrop, the southwestern side of the Acropolis, the quintessence of classical antiquity and the symbol of ancient Athens as the birthplace of democracy.
The Central Archaeological Council, which in Greece that holds jurisdiction over the top archaeological sites, on Wednesday granted permission for a platform and related broadcast infrastructure to be erected on the directly across from the southwest corner of the Acropolis, roughly in front of the 19th century Athens observatory.
