The National Council for Radio and Television (NCRTV) will have the sole authority to conduct a tender procedure for awarding television broadcasting licences, Digital Policy and Media Minister Nikos Pappas said in statements to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) on Thursday.
“We are confident that we will soon have a solution,” he said, while adding that the number of TV station licences will be arrived at through consultation and broader consensus between the political forces and the new independent authority, the NCRTV.
Reacting to Pappas’ statement, main opposition New Democracy’s Parliamentary group spokesman Nikos Dendias told reporters that it was “moving in a good direction” and also welcomed the government’s decision to accept ND’s proposed candidate for NCRTV chairman, Athanassios Koutromanos.
