Greek Defence Minister Panos Kammenos’ stance on national issues is leading Greece to a dangerous path, the president of DIMAR and parliamentary representative of the Democratic Alliance Thanasis Theoharopoulos said on Monday, commenting on the minister’s visit to Kastelorizo and other remote border islands.
Kammenos was accompanied by lawmakers from SYRIZA, his party, the Independent Greeks (ANEL) and Golden Dawn.
“At a particularly difficult time for the country, the minister of defence has often chosen to put up shows for his electoral audience. The new ‘show’ concerns military tourism for him and another nine lawmakers to remote islands,” Theoharopoulos said.
“[The move is] Without any substance, as the majority of the relevant parliamentary committee did not follow him in his slide into nationalism and populism, yet the minister continues to trivialize serious institutional procedures,” he said.
